Groom Heart
Need advise/ideas for rehearsal dinner…?
My son is getting married and I’m trying to plan a rehearsal dinner. Since the wedding and rehearsal are being held outdoors I’ve decided to serve pizza and keep the event very casual. In addition to the pizza I was thinking of doing some home baking and would like to include a simple cake with the names of the bride & groom, hearts, etc., as part of the meal. Is this appropriate? I’ve read all of the “etiquette” pointers and one stated that a “tier” cake is not appropriate. Please help…this is my first time.
the cake that is normally served at the rehearsal dinner is known as “the groom’s cake”. it is usually chocolate, but that is not a hard fast rule… and it can be as simple or elaborate as you wish it to be, but it should not be a tier cake.
i know of one groom’s cake that was made into the shape of an xbox because he loved xbox. some are made into the shapes of sports type things, or anything really that the guy loves.
your idea of what to serve is fine and the cake can be simple and romantic with just their names on it, but try not to let it be a “wedding cake type” of cake….even if the cake is yellow or white cake, it is really best to set it apart from the wedding cake idea by using chocolate frosting.
i did an outdoor wedding a couple of years ago where the reheasal dinner was held at a nearby sports park….you know, a minuture golf, batting cage, driving range place. the food was served outdoors on the picinic table and consisted of fried chicken, potatoe salad, coleslaw, baked beans and cupcakes. it was one of the most fun rehearsal dinners i have ever done. so whatever you do, make it fun.
